The Glendale Grange fair closes
this evening and we feel very proud i
of the exhibits that we carefully
looked over.
We were surprised and pleased at

squashes that greeted our vision fori
the first time after over thirty years!

drffted mechanically toward the
ladies corner where the beautiful nnd

it a chimera of our brain or are we
standing upon the heights of the 2"
enltiry attainments. We tried to aote
t all. even the crons of fii.e fowl.
We especially noticed the fine rooster
in his solitary coop and a fine

were determined not to ask any;

"Whin are you going?" asked

"Tomorrow morning, early.
Jimmy dropped the basket of

"Ain't you ever coming back? ne
a.-ked wistfully.
I hop" not," I answered shortly.
A if just noticing that the basket
of fruit was overlurned, Jimmy
stooped and picked W up slowly.
Again he tendered me the basket,
"it'll be nice to eat on tho train," he
remarked slowly, and thrusting it
into tuy hand he turned and fled.
I set the basket down quickly and
ran after bim, "Oh Jimmy, . come
back here; come back, I want to tell
you something."
Jimmy turned back and came to
ward me, and to my surprise there
were traces ot tears on bis freckled
cheeks.
I Just wanted to say tbat I like
you, Jimmy. And I don't believe that
there will ever be anybody nicer to
me than you have been. When 1 am

and I'll tell her something to say to
you every letter that I write to ber.
And Jimmy, I wunt to tell you some
thing before I go. My father's name
was Robert Carleton, and there was
some very unfortunate circumstances
connected with my birth, for which
neither my father nor uiy mother
was to blame. I just want you to

"Aw, that's all right. Ann. 1 knew
it a long while ago, and I blacked
Tommy Retzler's eye yesterday for
saying something about It I didn't
like. It's all right, Ann." And then
Jimmy stopped and blushed, as he
added: "1 want you to remember
ihat some day when I ve grown up,
