they would not be unwilling to

became a reality two days ago,

one essay has come in from
outside of lloseburg. Don't for-

resident of Douglas county. You

this county. Suppose you have

on Washington street, is reported

entertained for his recovery. Mr.
Long has been In failing health for
several months and la now bedfast

for Portland, and from there will

are travelling by auto, and will
visit nt Crater lako and other points

A party giving the came of Black
burn has picked up a .few dollars
here by selling what he alleged was
a coupon on a photographic studio to
apply on price or work. At least ono
of the alleged coupons has come io
light, the victim being fleeced of 12.
The name signed to the alleged
coupon was merely "Blackburn."
The name of the studio was also
vague, but evidently the operator di
rected his victim, because the holder
of the coupon presented herself at
the Hayden studio this morning and
wanted to turn It in on work.

joyable vacation. Among the citlea
visited was Seattle, which Dr. Bath

GOLD HILL, Ore., August 13,
Deep down In the diggings of the
old sylvanlte mines a hitherto un
touched body of rich gold are has
been uncovered in such quantity,
that the future stability df the
group Is insured. The precious
mineral was found at a" depth of
over 500 feet and yielded from 20
to $50 to the ton.

PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 13. The
charting of wood-using Industries
of the United States Is to be one of
the first steps to be taken in the
educational campaign to Increase
the market for .northwestern lum
ber and Its products. The report,
which will be df great value In this
state, will be completed In 90 days.

the first time In many years a ves
sel flying the Swedish flag, put in
at the Portland harbor a few days
ago. She was the steamer Indus,
which Is to load a full cargo of
wheat for the United Kingdom.
