Former RoM-burgcrs Visit
Karl C. Caddis and Volney Dixon,
the widely known wire fence distrib

ern California, motored down from
Medfoid yesterday to spend a couple
of dais here. Roth of these gentle
men spent their boyhood in Roseburg
and enjoy occasional visits hern.
They report the road in good condi

the fine new prade through the big
canyon above Canyonville. That sec

made on June 23. an Increase of
$14 a hundred pounds In 30 days.
A series of unavoidable events,
most of them resulting from ab
normal conditions produced by the
war. contributed to the phenomonal
price trends, the report Bays. Among
the principal disturbing influences
described are periodical releases by
the War Department of surplus
stocks of beef in an effort to re
duce living costs, higher stocker and
feeder markets, high priced feeds,
fruition of producers' efforts to In
crease cattle production for war
needs and anticipated foreign de
mands, labor troubles, decreased
transportation facilities, embargoes,
unsotteled foreign credit and
change conditions, decrease In beef
exports, financial credit restrictions,
declines in prices of hides, tallow
and other animal by-products and
decreased or spasmodic consumption
of meat.
In fact, the report nays, every
possible economic factor Incidental
to a period of reconstruction and
capable of disturbing market con
ditions for these products of the
farm and range had free and almost
unlimited action.
