statement today, when told of the
charge which is said to lie held

Body Sheriff Taylor
Be Buried Today
PENDLETON. July 27 All of
Umatilla county In mourning, the
funeral of the late Til Taylor, who
was killed Sunday by a shot from an
ese-Ded jprlsoner'a gun, was held
this afternoon at 3 o'clock from the
Kniscooal Church. The aervlcet
were In charge of the Masons and the
Elks, the deceased having been a
member of both orders.
Mr. Taylor waa 54 years of age and
wns born at Howell's Prarie, nine
lies from Salem. Two years later
he came with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. David Taylor, to Athena, Uma-
tllli county. He attended school In
Athena and Walla Walla and later
went to business college in Portland
In 1889 he married Miss Sadie
Smith of Athena. He was at that
time employed as book keeper In
Athena. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor were
the parents of one son, Sheldon Tay-
or, of thla city, 29 years of age. Mrs.
Tayor died in 1896 and soon after
ward Mr. Taylor came here and was
employed in a hardware store.
In 1898 he became deputy sheriff
for William Hlakely and served until
1902, when he was elected sherl I. He
has been sheriff continuously since
that time. He remarried In 1909, bis
wife being Miss Claire N'oussu of
Pendleton.
He la survived by a wife, the son
hv the former marriage, his mother
who Is 79 years of age, and a broth
er. W. R. Taylor of Athena, who lis
been made sheriT since the death o'
his brother. There are many distant
relatives.
