tute held at Gardiner May s was a
decided success from every point o(
view. It was well attended and was
tilled with interest ana enthusiasm

Brown, in bis usual pleasiug mail'

pointed hour.
J. S. Gray in bis address of wel
come made each one within the
sound of bis voice feel the sincerity
of his words. The same may be said
ot Miss Thomas, of Scottsburg, who
gave the response.
Mrs. W. F. Jewett delighted the
uudience with a vocal solo which she
pave In ber charming manner. Miss
Margaret Sagabeid rendered two
beautiful piauo solos, while Uurney
Jones and liarbura Sugaberd charm
ed the audience with their sweet,
childish voices In song. The motion
song given by the pupils of the pri
mary department was greatly en
joyed. Miss Woolworth spoke on Gen
eral Science in the High School.'
Her talk was made realistic by in
teresting demonstrations performed
by members of ber general science
class. Those taking purt were Har
old Gerhard, James Gruham, Kela
Smith and Grace Wroe.
Prof. Almatk, of the U. of O.
fpoke on "Higher Education." He

A very Interesting and profitable
discussion of the tax and adjusting
of teachers' salaries followed. This
diBcussion was led by Messrs. Gray,
jewett and Uenson.
The Institute went on record as
favoring the educational tax Issues.
The members of tho "High School
Heme Makers club" served a most
dellclouB lunch to the visiting teach
ers and board memberB.
In their usual gracious way the
Gardiner school board gave the visit

Schedule For Base
Ball Is Outlined
A schedule of baseball games for
the local high school aggregation has
been outlined, all the games to b-j
olayed before the close of school
The local team Is holding daily prac
tice and they expect to make a good
showing before the season is closed
The diamond has been placed in line
shape for the next game, several of
the boys working each evening ioi
lowing school hours. A game has
been arranged with Cottage Grove to
be played here next Friday, and a re
turn game will be played with them
at Cottage Grove on May 21st. A
return game with Kiddle will also be
played, one afternoon of carnival
week having been selected. Those In
charge of the high school team will
get in touch with the athletic com
mlttee in charge of carnival sports
and arrange for one aflernoou to be
given over to them.
Mock Debate Is
Part of Program

high school auditorium on Friday

will be held. This will be the first
debate of this kind to be held here
for some time, and much Interest Is
being displayed. The subject will
be, "Resolved, That the veracity of
old Mother Goose Is to be questioned
when she says that the cow Jumped
over the moon." LeKoy Walker and
Kdwln Smith will debate the ques
tion, and a Tod many laughs are
guaranleed. Following the debate
there will be a burlesque drama,
takeoff on Romeo and Juliet having
been selected. Adrian Fisher will
portray Romeo. Vera McMillan, jui-
iet; and the other characters will
he taken by George Singleton and
Charles Thurston.
