to organize the local dealers and to
take tbeir membership Into tbe or
ganization which is standing for tbe
protection of tbe dealer and the pro
motion, of legislation favorable to
tbe motorist.
Problems confronting the auto
motive dealers are more numerous
and serious now than they were dur
ing the war when the war trade
lioard classified the automobile as a
non-essential and seriously consid
ered closing up dealers' establish
ments, says Mr. Magner. Through
strenuous offorts made by tbe Na-
toinal Automobile Dealers associa
tion, the automobile was removed
from the non-essential list.
"The dealers of the country are
racing the possibility that automo
biles sold to customers on credit win
be confiscated by the federal gov
ernment If found with liquor upon
which (he federal revenue has not
hn ..aid A federal statute passed

courts of appeal have ruled that it
applies to automobiles, under the

bill, providing for aj universal li
cense in the United Stntes, which
means that whon an autoist complies
with all the laws and requirements
of his home state, no other state
can tax or license his car. 'One coun
try, one flag, one license tag.' "

RIGHTS OF WAY SETTLED.
County Judge D. J. Stewart and
Commissioner Edwin Weaver re
turned last night from Leon a and
vicinity where they have been ob
taining rights of way for the Pacific
highway. Satisfactory settlements
have been tnsde with all property
owners and the warrants will be
drawn as soon as the options are ap
proved by the county court which
meets tbe first of the month.
George W. Riddle, of Riddle, ar
rived in Roseburg this afternoon to
spend a short time attending to busi
ness matters.
Justice of tbe Peace I. B. Riddle,
candidate for the position of county
clerk, returned yesterday from Port
land, where he attended the funeral
of his mother-in-law, Mrs. S. C. Sim
mons. Mrs. Riddle will remain in
Portland until Saturday or Sunday.
