promise and deliver less to those of
leaders who promise more. In tier-

way to more radical socluliKin,
communism, to syndicalism. Thlfc

more radical schemes of govern
ment, or non-government. Hack of
It all. In (iermany, as In Russia, will
be that which supports nil forms of
autocracy whether that of the
dynasty or that of the class, the
bayonet. Ultimately all these
schemes of claBS and group govern
ment will fall, despite the free use
of force In terrorism. Probably the
dictatorship of some strong military
despot, ruling In his own proper
person, will come with the next turn
of the kaleidoscope. The United
States present the one feasible form
of free government, the represent
ative republic. It Is 'unfortunate
that at such a time as this In world
history, when institutions elsewhere
are fulling and new govermental
structures are being erected, Amer
ica did not have leadership which
believes In this form of government
rather than in the European con
ception of "democracy." The Ameri
can principle of government would
have brought unity and federation
to Europe. The continuance of the
European system of multiplied na
tionalities, based upon rax-liU and
dynastic hatreds, and of the per
petuation of caste and class, will
keep Kurope In chaos. which is one
very good reason why this country
should hesitate to mk the perinnn
nency of our form of government In
any general scheme for perpetuullng
and safeguarding the existing Ku

Last Evening
A moit unique sermon was pre
sented las. night at the Christian
church by I'vungelist 'Cross. The
sermon was presented from a chart
that set forth 'he railroads, side
tracks, yards, derailments and all
pnaaea of the life. A number of
railroad men heard the sermon, and
the house was filled with listeners,
Mr. Cross having been a. fireman.
and having done other work on tha
road, understands tha matter. Tha
railroad men have greatly enjoyed
him. Mrs. Cross sang tha song that
had been dedicated to railroad men,
and it also warn much appreciated.
