The After Effects
of Pneumonia
This is No. 2 of a scries of advertisements, prepared by a com
petent physician, explaining how certain diseases which attack
the air passages such as Pneumonia, Influenza, Whooping
Cough, Measles or even a long continued Cold often leave
these organs in an inflamed, congested state, thus affording a
favorable fuothold for invading germs. And how Vitk's Vapo
Kub may be of value in this condition
' Pneumonia attacks the air cells
of the luns. An inflammation
is set up and matter is thrown
loll which causes the air cells to
solidify, thus preventing the
natural flow of blood thru the
lungs. This "backing up" of
the blood causes the heart to
pump harder, just as stepping on
a hose increases the water pres
sure, which is the reason why,
during this disease, the physician
watches the overburdened heart
so carefully.
After recovery the lunca are
j filled with a mass of wreckage
wie uciLiie wnicn
must be gotten rid of by a process
known as resolution. Frequently,
inflamed spots remain, congestion
persists, cough hangs on, and the
least exposure brings on a cold
that is hard to get rid of. If
neglected, such damaged air pas-
usages may easily develop serious
ui uie lungs.
Such cases should always con-
!t:nue under a physician's care
and frequent examinations should
jbe made to see that nature is

Nightly applications of Vick's
VapoRub will aid nature in this
work. Because Vicks acts locally
by stimulation thru the skin to
draw out the inflammation, at
tract the blood away from the
congested spots and relieve the
cough. In addition, the medici
nal ingredients of Vicks are
vaporized by the body heat.
These vapors are breathed in all
night long, thus bringing the
medication to bear directly upon
the inflamed areas, tt
Vicks should be rubbed in
over the throat and chest until
the skin is red then spread on
thickly and covered with hot
flannel cloths. Leave the cloth
ing loose around the neck and
the bed clothes arranged in the
form of a funnel so the vapors
arising may be freely inhaled. If
the cough is annoying, swallow a
small bit of Vicks the size of a pea.

City Will Take Over Tourists

of tump (rounds.
Shall flie city take over, maintain,
and control the auto tourist camp
grounds? That question will be put
up to the people at the May 21 elec
tion, It was decided by the city coun
cil last night. An ordinance provid
ing the expenditure of I50U per year
for the purpose of maintaining au
auto tamp ground, subject to the
vote of the residents of the city, was
passed last night and will ooine up
for ratification at the primary elec
tion. The camp ground has grown so
rapidly and has become such a factor
that it has outgrown Its present
management. The Chamber of Com
merce and Merchants' association,
which heretofore have been super
vising the grounds with the assist
ance of the council, are unable to
properly control it longer and have
asked that the city take over the
work. Although the sentiment ap
pears to be In rnvor of such action,
ihero are some who object to the
city assuming this proposition, and
for this reason a vote will be called
for. Up until May 21 the council
will lake over the grounds, will put
them in shape for the accommoda
tion of tourists, antj will take such
action as needed to care for the
visitors to the city.
It Is planned to secure additional

ror overrinw purposes it Is ex

has been found that the lease re
serves the privilege of using the
grounds for such purposes at the dis
cretion of the directors, and it is
certain that the fair grounds can be
used as an overflow camp site. In
this regard the mayor was author
ized to write, to the manager of the
ad men's caravan, which is expected
next month, and Inform him that
Koseburg can supply accommoda
tions for the party. This caravan
will be composed of about 100 auto
mobiles and aerompanlod by about
400 people. The fair grounds will
be secured for the purp.ise of park

vaudeville performance consisting of

The dramatic readings given by Miss

THAT is tho hind of increase in sa'ary
the minister has received. His living
expenses have risen just as fast und as far
as yours.
But he is paid on the average just 52 cents
more per church member than he wfiS paid 34
years ago.
The Minister Never Fails You
Every officer of the Government with a Wfir
message to deliver appealed to the ministers fu st
of all.
But BO'o of the ministers receive less income
than government economists figure us a minimum
for the support of an average family.
When hospitals need money they enlist the
support of the ministers and receive it.
But when sickness visits the Minister or the
members of his family they must be treated in a
charity ward. His pay is less than a day laborer's.
8 out of every 10 ministers receive less than
$20 a week about half the pay of a mechanic
We Pay Him Half the Wage of a Mechanic
And of these pitifully inadequate salaries, how much do
you contribute? Nothing if you are outside the church ;
an average of less than 3c a duy if you are a church
member. v .
All of us share in the benefits of Christian ministers to
the community. They marry us; bury us; baptize our
children; visit us when we are sick. In their hands is the
spiritual training of the youtli.
We Are All Profiteer at Their Expense
Part of the Interchurch World program is this- a living
wage for every minister of Jesus Christ ; an ellicient plant,
and a chance to do a big man's job.
If you want better preachers, help to pay the preachers
better. It's the best investment for your community and
for your children that you can ever make.
