Never before has there been In this community such a universal ob servance of Memorial Pay ua that of yesterday. For several days past numerous people were visiting ihe local cemeteries and beautifying the last resting places of the loved ones gone before. When their labor of love and remembrance was finished in the golden sunshine of Memorial liny, ihe little mounds and tombs of every local cemetery were bedecked In greater profusion of floral tributes than ever before. !uo lo the efforts of ihe (i. A. It., the Kelief Corps and hundreds of grateful friends, every soldier grave was decorated with an American flag as well as with tributes of beautiful flowers. The business houses and public offices were closed and t he day was devoted to cherishing t he memory of those who are no longer with us in active life, hut whose good and glorious deeds are by no means forgotten. The impress of the gnat world war happily now closed- was felt on every hand and every soldier grave was -especially he decked with the loving tokens of a grateful people. In the afternoon the members of Ihe (I. A. U. and the W. li. C. inarched from their headiinnrtcrs in the armory to the Oak street bridge, v here wiih nppmpriule ceremonies they strewed the waters with flow ers in memory of those who had lost their lives at sea or in set vice of the navy. Thence they went to the Sol diers Home cemetery where another a p propria i e ceremony was observed and a mound covered with flowers in honor of the unknown dead. The grave of each veieran was also strewn with flowers, as well as with the n.ttional emblem. Later, at the Soldiers Home grounds the program id the day was uiven. The tentative plan is to erect a two room school building at Dixonville, and consolidating bchuol districts IS, 11, C, 62 and V.j. Added lo the general grade studies will be a high Hchool course, thus enabling Ihe students of that community to secure a higher education while residing at home. In the past it has heen necessary for a goodly shari of I hose seeking a high school course ly move lo l his city during the school year at a consider able expense; still an automobile service has been in operation for some time, bringing ihe students to llu; local institution each morning and returning liiein In the evening. Kach school district involved In the plan of consolidation was repre sented at last night "s meeting and the proposed plan met the approval of all. It was estimated that Ihe es tablishment of such a school district at Dixonville would give lo that dis trict a property valuation of $tii)n, noi). So far as could be learned there is no oppositionio the present plan, and it is tiuile likely that the efforts of those now centered on the propo sition will eventually bear fruits of reward. The principal speakers at the as semblage were Prof. Altuack, of the Viiiversity of Oregon, who spoke on what has been accomplished In other communities by the consolidation plan ; County School Supl.
