CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ADUPIS RtSOLUIIONS rOH CKAUR LAKH ROAD At a special meeting of Hie Kose burg Chamber of Commerce Tuesday evening, May 0, IK ID, the following resolution was unanimously adopt ed: Whereas, the Tiller-Trail wagon road, being an approved government and state project and some $ll,0U0 already expended in its construction by tlie goernmenl and the county; and. Whereas, this road when com pleted will he one of the most im portant thoroughfares in .Douglas county as well as the stale oi Ore gon; and. Whereas, it will shorten the dis tance to Crater Lake more than Mi miles from all points north of Can youville, Oregon, and slightly shorten the distance between itose burg and Medford; and, Whereas, it will traverse a region that will thoroughly represent Doug las county's diversified resources, including tanning, fruit, timber, mining, fish and game, scenery and recreation ; and. Whereas, it will also open up a route from Douglas county into east ern Oregon, as well us Medlord and all points south, without inlereter ing with ihe Pacific highway; Therefore, be it resolved, that it is the recommendation of the Itose burg Chamber of Commerce, that the county court of Douglas county co operate with the government and the state in the completion of thiH road, and that steps be taken at once by said county court to start construction at the earliest date pos sible. Il is further resolved, that the counly court of Douglas county lake immediate steps to bring ubout a co operation, if possible, with the gov ernment and the stale for Hie tem porary improvement of the Tiller Trail road, in order to divert the very heavy travel from ihe Pacific highway during the construction of said Pacific highway, which will he more or less obstructed durin g the next IN months or more. I Mr. (Iarretl reports that Ihere will be seven silos built in the (ilendale, disirict the coming year, with a pos- 1 sibility of at least two more. These i silos will average 1 2 feet in diam - j eter by 2f feet high, and t he ma terial on the ground will cost ap-! proximately 911S for each silo. The lumber is being furnished tin (Hen-, dale people by ihe Gh-ndah- Lumber Company. They charge tor this ma- i terial $:!K per thousand for the lum- ! b'-r already milled and ready for set- ' ting up. W. Todft, of Oakland, were this morning arraign ed before Justice of the Peace 1. H. Kiddle on a complaint filed by Came Warden F. II. Herrington, of Kiddle, who caused thft arrest of the men, who it was alleged by the official were unlawfully fishing in the water of the North Fmpiiua river near Winchester with nets. Fpou entering pleas of guilty as charged. Judge Kiddle fined the fishermen ? 2a each and in view of the fact that the men were unable to liquidate, the judge allowed them three months in which to make ji set tlement. H is said that the Irio "t rolled" yesterday afternoon and evening and not having any luck, de cided to use the nets, which led lo their undoing. That the fish caught and exhibited as evidence wen to be used for their own consumption and not for marketing purposes is the belief of Judge Kiddle, and iherefore leniency was shown. Mr. Herrington staled this morn ing thai Ihe nets, boat and fishing license ,f Ceorgc lleecroft , who is badly crippled, and these being his only means of support ing himself and aged mot her, w ere not confis cated, as is usually Ihe praci ice in such cases.
