Other Oregon towns have move
ments well under way for a renewal
of general business activity during
the current year. In Salem the Com
mercial Club has greatly increased
Its membership and a new manager
was recently elected from a live
Washington town. The outluok there
Is reported better than for a number
of years past. A big paper mill, rep
resenting an Investment of approxi
mately $500,000, has been secured
for that city and construction work
Is to be commenced at once. Prop
erty Is also reported lo be moving
nicely.
At Eugene the Commercial Club
membership is now approximately
f.fiO, having been Increased about
lull since the llrst of the year. Cor
responding activity Is also reported
in other lines. Heal estate men re
port inore sales In the past two
moiinis than during the previous two
years. Many new comers are arriv
ing and are being lucated on coun
try or city property.
Erom Medford also comes reports
of many new arrivals and a general
renewal of business activity. The big
irrigation projects In that valley are
attracting much attention and these
are being put into actual operation.
. ; The many inquiries being received
: f roin abroad are being promptly un-
swere.i ami a , complete lonow up
system Is in vogue there, so that an
Inquirer is never lost sight of until
he Is finally located there, if It can
be done.
Here in Ilosoburg we seem lo be
slill onarotiscd as to Ihe existing
conditions. We are drifting along In
the same old lethargic state. Con
sequently other localities are getting
the business while we are at a stand
still. While a few men have been
working to secure a live membership
for our Commercial Club, Ihe general
public Ititeresl Is lacking that Is
necessary lo iiiakn it a real success.
Nothing In a practical wny can be
accomplished until II is given united
support. No use lo Idly wonder why
our comtnunlty Is not going forward.
The only tiling lo do Is to Join the
club and help lo make II the live In
stitution II ought lo be.
Many inquiries are being received
bete In. Ill prospective settlers, but
we have no literature lo send them
nor any adequate means for properly
! answering their inquiries. In conse
quence these newcomers seldom pet
nearer here than Eugene, or they go
on through In Medford. They do not
even know Hint Hoseburg Is on Ihe
map. Neither can we expect to get
any new Industries without united
eouimunity effort. A cannery is at
this time a prime necessity. Pnless
such an Institution Is established
here Ihe local fruit and berry In.lus
trv Is hound lo languish. It requires
lime nml energy and money lo se
cure these things, hut the Invest
ment Is sure lo bring very large re
turns If you waul these things you
must do your part In order In get
them. Also remember Ihiil the lime
