A big drive upon the housewives
for the purpose of enlisting support
to National Kond Administrator Her

tion of food in this city, as part of a
Nation-wide campaign, was an
nounced by Attorney li. L. Kddy this
afternoon. Mr. Kddy recently con
ferred with Mr. Hoover's Oregon
representative in Portland und plans
for l lie working machinery to he
employed in a drive throughout the
county have been arranged. Mr.
Kddy is head of the Douglas County
committee who will be in charge.
M r. Kddy staled this afternoon
thai a meeting wilt he held at his
off ire next Monday afternoon when
those who have already been invited
to act as other mouthers of tiie coin
mil tee will bo present to organize.
It is not known as yet how many of
these men will he present or whether
they will be able to accept. As soon
as this is known, the personnel of
the committee will be announced.
The plan as outlined by Mr. Kddy
today is to appoint workers in every
town and school district in the coun
ty. These people will take cards to
every household, where the house
wives will he asked to sign to the
effect that they will observe the sir
gestions made by Mr. Hoover with
reference to conserving food in
every possible Instance. Mr. Hoover
especially warned against the ex
travagant use of sugar. He says that
within a short time the sugar supply
of Franco will have given out and
i demand will then be made open
the tnited Slates. Mr. Hoover's
scheme is also to have meatless days
ind whealless days, and the house
wives will be asked to promise to
ca rrv ou I t hese preca u t ions.
The drive will bo made from Oc
tober 22 to 27. II is the intention of
the committee to arrange for all the
machinery before hand so that the
canvass will be made without a de
lay or a hitch. Kvery home in the
county is lo be visited during Ibis
week.
