Hie Studebaker automobile, today re
ceived a letter from his son. Cordon
Ilurnett, to the effect that he is now
located with the Fnited States avia
tion corps at Pensacola, Florida.
In bis letter to Mr. Purnett the
young man says ho is employed In
the mechanical department, and one
or his duties is to inspect the engines
of the aeroplanes follow ing every
flight. The machines are kept in the
best of condition, according to Mr.
Ilurnett. and encine trouble is sel
dom experienced by the aviators. He
ays the weather Is deliehtrul in
Florida at the present time, and the
boys nre having a good time. They
are compelled to work about seven
hours a day and the remainder or
the time is given over to sports and
pleasantries.
Before becoming a member of the
aviation corps the young man was
employed in local garages. He is said
to be an expert mechanic, and is es
peciallv well versed in handling gaso
line engines.

young man of this city, who joined
Ihe I nited States Navy more than a
year ago. and lias since been attach
ed to the battleship Florida, is now
with Ceneral Pershing in France,
i recording to word received here tu
day. After several promotions, Mr.
, Sussmilch is said to have finally
' been jetcrted as one of the eight
men best fitted to represeut the
Florida and accordingly was made
a part of the Pershing contingent
when a number of the Navy men
were ui ven the honor of being
among the first American fighters to
land in Frame. It is assumed that
young Sussmilch is now training
with the expeditionary force and will
soon be in the trenches. He is well
known here, having made his home
wit h his parents near Harden Val
