There ure several fires in that vi cinity, according to Mr. Varneter. but nil of them are now under control. The fires at Perdue have alRO heen extinguished, as have thone at Tyee, Leona, and other localities in the northern part of the county. Two new fires were reported at the district warden's office this mornine. one of which is located at Ash. The other fire is near Dads Creek. Neittav of these fires nre said to be serious at the present lime and will probably be gotten un der control early tomorrow. This morning's Oregonian pub lished the loilowiug article regard ing the annual picnic of the lougla County Association, which was hid at Peninsula Park, in Portland, on Sunday: Nearly 500 men, women and child ren entire families were preseiu hi large numbers former residents of Noughts County now living in Port laud, enjoyed a perfect day of rest and recreation In Peninsula Park yesterday on the occasion of the all ium I picnic and business session of the buuglas County Association ol Portland. While the parents ami older mem bers chatted and visited, renewing acquaintances and talked over old times, the children took advantage of the playgrounds and went in lor all the sports of the season. At 11 o' clock a business session was held, followed by a basket luncheon from 12 to 2. This was one of the most enjoyable features of the day. From 2 until 5 p. in. there were musical and literary numbers and an address by George M. Brown, Attorney-General of Oregon and honorary member of the organization, ou Douglas County, its history and some reminiscences. At the business session the follow ing officers were elected: President. J. C. Joi.iison; secretary. Lon L. Pai ker; first v ire-president. C. Louis Baizee; second vice-president, L. 1.
