Hailey left here this nmi-Tiing by automobile for Drain where he spent the day attending a meeting of the Grange of that place. He took with him several hundred bioccoli plants which have been sold to ranchers of the Drain vicinity. THREE FIRES REPORTED 10 EIRE WARDEN HERE; ONE WAS KIINGND William Landers, district fire war den, who returned here last night from the Applegate district. Informed a Review representative that three foreact fires had been reported at j his1 office thus far this season. One fire was discovered in the vicinity of Days Creek, but was extinguished after a few hours of hard wark. t Another fire was reported near Wes' Fork lust night, while the third fire is eaid to be raging a few miles south of Canyonville. Mr. Landers has1 men fighting the fires and he anticipates no serious results.. The forests are very dry at the present time, according to the district warden, and he is using every precaution to avoid fires. Campers aud tourists are especially warned against seting fires unless they are extinguished before they leave camp. It has been nearly five weeks since the last rainfall and the past two weeks of warm weather have added materially to the fire menace. j. Mr. Wampole, of Leona, and sev eral companions whose names we did not learn, came over to Smith River Sunday for the day s outing. Mr. and Mrs. Wright are busy re papering their house this week. Mrs. Ina Gunter and daughter. Miss Ina Perini, of Divide, spent the day at the home oi Mrs. Kinmu Hi-rrls last Thursday. E. J. Harris, who had been at Roseburg on business, returned to his home one ilay last week. Everett Wright, after spending a week wjth home folks during the' temporary shutdow n of the Leona mills over the Fourth, returned io work Sunday. His brother, Albert,) will return to work later. ; Mr. Kdson, who has been working at the Leona mills, has gone to the Harvest fields of Fastern Oregon. Mr. Kdson and two small children will visit relatives in L'ugene during uis absence. They expect to return io i heir home ou Sm it h River in September. Haying is still in progress, with a good crop of grass hay. Clover and fa 1 1-so v n g ra i u a re also good , but the spring-sown grain is not. good. A good rain about the first or July would have made a food crop ol it. The road crew will begin work on the Ryan grade ednesday. Work on this purt of the road is needed. Robert Wright made a trip to town after some supplies one day last week, returning the same day. A cougar track was again seen in the road near Summit creek, just above Mr. Rowers' ranch. It seems that cougar tracks have been seen ne;ir tli is place a number of times lately. ' The fruit crop on Smith River will not be very heavy this season, al though, owing to a heavy bloom and no spring frosts, a lriavy crop was predicted earlier in the season. Gardens are not up to the normal this year, owing to iin u n t'a v t ruble season. Potatoes will probably be a eood crop. X. X.
