Adams and members of the Ijuna County court Friday, at a conference held with Knimett Sharp, tho cupervipor in road dis trict No. 6K, in which Is located the road which has raised such a pro test. Mr. Adams stated that the con tract would be let In a very, short time fur the Improvement of the I'itss Creek Canyon, in Douglas County, one of the worst stretches of the I'arific Highway In the state. .Mr. Atlums also stated that there were several, heavy fills in that road and that no attempt wfeuld be made to hard surface It this year; that it would be covered with crushed rock and givt n an opportunity to settle well before receiving the hard surface. Mr. Sharp was down consulting the county commissioners regarding details as to work on the Lane Coun ty side of the line, and expected to commence the work of grading the new road and getting the rock ready to surface it in the very near future. Itoth Commissioner Adam and the county court are determined that the first thing to do is to put the highway in condition to carry travel twelve months in the year. Mr. Adams doubts tf macadam will stand permanently under the traffic which will come on the Pacific Highway, but says that the state can well af ford to let any counties desiring It try It out as it makes a better has for hard surface after having been thoroughly settled under traffic. TRENCH CLOTHING WILL ARRIVE HERE MONDAY; SAYS LOCAL CAPTAIN Captain .1. A. Tills equipment is beini; sent out by Cuptaain T. it. Harris, the uartermaster of the coast artillery corps. Tho clothing to be worn in the tivm-hes, to save the regular uniform consists of blue denim blouse, trous ers and hat. This is not new to the coast artilerymen, us they always wear these clothes in which to do tho rough and dirty work nt the big gun practice, but it is new to the infantrymen who will also get such clothing, according to Captain ituchanan. The equipment for the Itoseburg company Is almost complete, accord ing lo the officers and the boys will hue practically everything needed on the battlefield.
