Cross fund. Our local hoys are not going to a training camp lor
a couple or weeks at least. In the meantime let us divert our
thoughts from the war for a little while and enjoy the Chautau
qua which opens here next Saturday. We are assured that the
attractions ollered this year are the best ever presented by the
Kllison-White system. A study of the program for the week goes
far toward verifying such claim. There are 2(1 numbers included,
and season tickets for the entire week are but $2.50 each or less
than ten cents for each attraction. Just think of hearing some of
the very best musicians, lecturers and entertainers in the country
for no more than the entrance fee to the usual movie show. In
the Chautauqua programs you get value for your money and
many times over in a gre.it many instances. Just think of hearing
the "Chimes of Norm.indie," or "On the Itoad to Tokyo," or a
lecture by lir. Smith W illiams which may add years to your life
for less than a dime, on the season ticket plan. Other numbers
are equally good. Hundreds of local people have heard Dr. J.
Whitcomb liroiigher, and all will want to hear him again next
Saturday evening, lie is always "worth while.'" The same is
true of Alontnville Flowers and Ir. Frank Holm and l.ee Francis
l.ybarger, while Hon. W. I. Nolan and Flias Day w ill cause on to
laugh as heartily as you eer laughed in your life.
Here is a brief list of "Who's Who" on this Chautauqua pro
gram, and as soon as you have read it, call up the secretary, .Mr.
Jleinline, and he w ill have the necessary tickets for yourself and
family sent to your home. In no other way can you get so much
information and entertainment for $2.."0. Here's who they are
and where they come from:
Dr. J. Whitcomb I!rougher Is pastor of the famous liaptist
Temple in I.os Angeles, the largest in America.
Mr. and Mrs. Heaves and their grown son, make up the com
panv which handles the Manikins and come from Sidney, Aus
tralia. Dr. Henry Smith Williams is a New Yorker.
W. I. Nolan is from Minneapolis, a member of the Minnesota
legislature.
The Smilh-Spring-IIolmes Company make Chicago their
headquarters.
Dr. A. F. Turner, formerly a Nebraska!), has made Swarth
more, Pennsylvania, his home for the last five years.
The Huston Light Opera Company is composed almost en
tirely of ltoston people.
Flias Day is Dire- tor of the Lyceum Arts ("tmservatorv, Chi
cago. Lee Francis Lyhargcr, although a member of the Philadel
phia bar, makes his home at M ill insburg, Pa.
Mr. ami Mrs. Ongawa, natives of Japan but later naturalized
Americans, make Chicago their home.
Monlaville Flowers has a splendid home on his 'JO acre
oragne ranch in the suburbs of Monrovia, California.
The Musical Arts Quartet is a product of the Lyceum Arts
Conservatory of Chicago.
Dr. Frank I'.ohn. while formcrlv a Westerner, is now a New
Yorker.
Annie Therese D.ivault is "from Missouri," St. Louis being
her home.
Mr. and Mrs. Mollis Davt nny call Pittsburg their home, the
burg where they m;il e iron and "steal."
I'r. .1. l natin.-ev Hawkins is a Huston man. It is said
you can always tell a man from P.oston, but vou can't tell
much. When it conies to wild animals this is true of Mr.
kins, for he has made a life study of them.
