The new numbers are different from those on the green tor blue) registration certificates. The num ber on a man's certificate is the same as that written on his registra tion card at the time he registered. Rut under orders from the War De partment, the numbers of all the cards have been changed in the past two weeks. The new numbers are written on ! j the cards in red ink. Chapin, field manager for the Wittenberg-King Company, of Salem, arrived in Roseburg this morning to confer with local fruit and vegetable growers regarding the sale of their produce. He also passed considerable time with A. L. Kite bin, manager of the I'niptiua Valley Fruit I'nion, and other persons who are close In .touch with crop conditions in this vicinity. Mr. Chapin stated this morning that the Wittenberg-King Company is installing a large fruit and vege table evaporating plant ut Salem, and the same will be in readiness for operation at an early date. The firm is now in the market for a large ton nage of fruits and vegetables. '"We are able to pay liberal prices," said Mr. Chapin today, "and can handle au enormous amount of the products grown in Ibis section of the Htale. We are also willing to contract with the growers for a term of years In the event they so desire. Res ill en paying liberal prices for products, the company will furnish the neces sary containers and assist in defray ing the freight." Mr. Chapin said his firm Is ex ceedingly anxious to contract for several carloads of ripe loganberries at the present time, for which they wlll pay three and one-half cents a pound.
