entertainers of more than ordinary
ability, wait the declaration of J. M.
Throne, cashier of the I nipqua Val
ley Hank, who returned from .Mari-l-lield
Sunday nip tit after attending
the, annual meeting of the Oregon
Hanker' Atthociat ion, held at that
place.
Th business meetings were held
laHt Friday, and Saturday waa given
over to the entertainment features,
which were pronounced a grand tmc
cckk. The latter program included a
vinit to the beautiful home of Lou in
Simpson, at "Shore Acres," a ban
quet on the beach, and receptions
galore. The bankers were taken
from .MarshfMd to the Simpson
home In automobiles furnished by
the public spirited citizens of the
former place, and were given an op
portunity to view some splendid
country which lies in that section of
the state. There was not a detail
larking for the entertainment of the
bankers, according to Mr. Throne.
The business sessions were also
very profitable, and many matters of
intense interest to the bankers of
Oregon were discussed. Addresses
were, made by several persons of
National prominence, and it was the
general opinion of all present at the
convention that Oregon is soon to
enjoy the most presperous era of Its
history. The trip from Eugene to
Marsh if eld was made by special
train, and four Pull man cars were
necessary to accommodate the
H ii en Is. During the delay of the
bankers at Kugene they were ten
dered a banquet by the Commercial
Club of (bat place.

tpelled another man lo escape with
him and was hunted over ibis part
of the state, being seen about Mam
nth KallB. He is said to have cached
the proceeds of his robberies some
where in the Siskiyou Mountains. He
was a college gnuluate and of pleas
ing personality He was wanted at
Clarendon. Arkansas, for killing a
deputy sheriff.
Hooper spent a night in the coun
tv jail here and is well known to
Sheriff Quine and oilier local offi

Sunday, and accompanied by V. P.
Heed, went out to Three Mile Lake
on a fishing trip.
Pete Cowan last week bought one
of the finest spans of three year old
mares from W. P. Heed ever raised
in this section of the country. They
are bay In color and so perfectly
matched otherwise that it is hard to
tell one from the other.
If money enough Is not In sight to
pay the deficiency of keeping the
electric lights on. which is claimed
to be about $60, it is the intention of
the local plant to close down, as it is
now being run at a loss.
Johnny Piertz was down from the
quarry the first of the week rigging
up his auto, which we understand he
is EToing to take back to the quarry
with him, so as to have It in readi
ness when the I'nipqua Highway is
built.
