John Howell, a pioneer of 18 5$, died at his home at Crants Fass on Juhe 3, at the ape of nemly 82 years. His aged wile and eight sons and daughters survive him. Our fellow townsman, J. fL Howell, Is one f his sons. Mr. and Mrs. J. II. Howell were at his bedside when I he end came. Slowly i.nd surely the ranks of our grand old pioneers are thin ning, and while there is one who lin gers, we nil should strive in every way to f-how our appreciation of the magnificent bequest they have left to posterity. All honor to our noble pioneers. Measles are plentiful in this city and some cases nre very severe. A most delightful and interest in;; program was rendered prior to the sale ot baskets, proving conclusively that ttie pupils have made most astonishing progress under the tutelage of Miss Meyer. We feel that this term of school marks the greatest number of im prove ments our school has ever made. Miss Meyer is confide:;; that we lack but one or two requirements to be come a standard school.
