Mr. Ward has gone to Portland, while Mr. Hurd Is eti rouie to Astoria to attend the an nual meeting of the State tliauge. Mr. Hurd eHis to return to Ho-ebur within the next two weeks when lie will resume the woik out lined by Mr. Ward. It is estimated that squirrels consume seven hun dred bushels of w heat and other ; grain in Houglas County each year, and the loss tan only be eliminated through (omph'te eradication of the pests. Mr. Hurd will N:t practi-J cally every rural district of loitgla County and will familiarize the, ranchers with the methods adopted for t he extermination of squirrels ; by the Government experts. j M r.
