viuiom of National Guardsmen, about
1 25,000 men, will he In hurope by
winter, if the army general staff
plan are. adopted. Action on these
plans is expected today or early next
week. The staff in understood to
favor the plan, although there will
be difficulty in transporting such a
large number .-of men before fall.
Kven a fairly large transport will ac
commodato scarcely over L'miii men.
While the plans are not completed,
they contemplate little training in
American camps, leaving the hard
and intensive work to liritish can
tonments and French training
classes. The War Department pro
poses to pick, the best trained of thu
Ujitardsmen for service.
If transports are secured there is
practically no (juetdion about sending
the men abroad before winter. They
might be seasoned and trained in
time to get into the autumn drive.
