Homestead Untitled at Cillile. John H. Chapman, of Glide, one of the oldest and most respected on Oregon's early pioneers, died at the home of his daughter, .Mrs. s. J Shrum, at liliile. yesterday evening at S o'clock. He had been quite III recently and his death was not unexpected. ' Mr Chapman was nearly 92 years of age, having been born on August 15, 1X25. He lived with his parents In Gallia County, Ohio, until 1832, when the family moved to Iowa. In the spring of 1854. Mr. Chapman started for Oregon by ox team with his two brothers. George J. and A A. Chapman. Arriving in the fall of the same year, they settled on the East I'mpiiua River, near Glide. where another brother, Andrew J Chapman, had settled the year he fore. He was married to Martha Ells, who died a number of years ago. Mr. Chapman continued to make his home on the farm, which Is a part of his originnl homestead, until his death. He Is survived by Rcven children, three sons and four daughters, being Mrs. S. T. Riddle, of Hardin. Mont.; George N. Chap man, of Big Timber, Mont.; E. B. and S. D. Chapman. oT Glide: Mrs. Will Singleton, of Oak Creek and Mrs. S. D. Shrum and Mrs. 1. C. Livingston, of Glide. Mr. Chapman engaged In farmlns and stockraising all of his active life and was very successful. He was of that sturdy pioneer stoek which made for the upbuilding of the coun try and always took an active inter est In public affairs. He was a mem ber of the Baptist faith. The fu neral will be held on Friday fore noon and Interment will take place In the Glide cemetery.
