It has been decided that the grad
uatiug exercises shall he held in the
auditorium or the new high ?choui
building on the evening of June 1. j

graduating class this year will in
clude 41 pupils, which has only been

The last Oregon legislature made
a radical change Iu the manner In
which school districts will levy the
local school tax at the annual meet
ing. Heretofore the hoard has esti
mated the amount uf money neces
sary and then tlgured out the rate of
taxation to be imposesd to meet
these needs which rata was voted on
by the elctora.
Hereafter all school districts will
adopt the budget system, and decide
up on the sum of money to he raised.
The matter of netting the number of
mills ou the dollar of property neces
sary to raise that amount will he
left to the assessor.
If the districts have outstanding
indebtedness it will he necessary to
add that amount lo the sum neces
sary to be raised anad certify the
total amount to the assessor.
The taxpayers can cut the amount
to he raised, or eliminate items In
the budget as presented by the hnaru
but once the amount is settled hy tlie
voters the per cent of levy is com
puted iu the assessor's office.

of investigation hy the grand Jury
here today, but it believed no
indictments would be returned be
fore some time tomorrow. The sheep
killing case for which Tom Davis, of
Yoacalla wns under examination by
the grand Jurors yesterday, was com
pleted late in the atternoon and tne
several witnesses who were called ,
returned to their koines.
Todav. no less than three separ-
ito cases occupied the attention of
the Inquisitorial body at various
limes. The first of these was that
of Hay Heffnor. a Hive Creek boy,
who was arrested a few weeks ago
