BUCHANAN GETS t EIGHT DAYS TO BE ALLOWED Attired in regulation cowboy cos tumes and riding bucking bronchos brought in from the nearby ranges, the member of the Ashland delega tion who came here on train No. 14 Friday to attend the Carnival, and incidentally boon for the Rogue River Rouudup, to be held at the Southern Oregon city on July 3, 4 and 5, played an Important part in tbe Grange and industrial parade held here this afternoon. i Immediately following the arrival of the delegation here yesterday af ternoon they launched upon an ad . vertising campaign which lasted far Into the night. Thousands of hand bills were distributed throughout the evening, and the various events which will mark the rouudup pro gram this year were brought forcibly to the minds of the carnival visitors. That the advertising was effective and will have the desired results is the general opinion of those who were present on tbe streets during tbe late afternoon. I-Bt evening Tracy Lane, famous cowboy poet and singer, mounted an automobile in front of the 1'mpu.ua Hotel, where he rendered a number of delightful selections. He was cheered liberally by the throng as sembled and was compelled to re spond and render several more selec tions. Later in the evening the Ashland boosters hired an automobile aim made the rounds of the city. They sung and yelled the merits of the Rogue River Roundup and Lithia Park, and otherwise made their pres ence known in this vicinity. Resides participating in today's parade the visitors put on a number of humor ous stunts on the business streets, which were much appreciated. Novel songs, sung to the tune of "You Wore a Tulip and 1 Wore a Rig lieu Rose," were among the feature ren ditions of the Ashland boosters. The members of the Ashland dele gation included H. O. Froback, secre tary of the Ashland Commercial Club, and a member of the Rogue River Roundup Association; W. K. Rriggs, Tracy Lane. K. R. Grieve, W. E. Pierson, D. K. Connor and F. W. Herron. War lU'iutnient Will Assist Absen tee la Having Their Card Reach the lroHr Official . l'huis Completed. One of the questions most fre quently asked In-re during the past few days is that of how persons who on the day of the census are absent from their home precincts may regis ter. For their convenience the War Department has provided a special method whereby they may register by mail, according to word received here today. Five days after publication of the President's proclamation naming a war census day. there will be a sup ply of registration blunks at the oh ice of the county clerk of every county in the I'nited Slates, or at the office of the mayor of every city with a population of more than 3d, nun population. The county clerk or mayor Is au thorized to record the answers of men absent from their home precinct who apply to him, and (o certify to their registration cards. Rut after the clerk has made out the registra tion card it is up to the man for whom it is made to see that the card reaches the registrar of his home precinct by war census day. He must mail the card to the registrar of his home precinct, care of the sheriff of his home county. Sheriff George Quine and County Clerk Lenox staled today that plans were complete for the registration in Douglas County and that a supply of the necessary cards are expected to arrive here tomorrow. Eight days will be allowed after the President issues his proclamation for the dif ferent states to report that they are ready to take the census. 4.
