rive at Hocus Pocus Island in Van
Prissey's yacht, but are shipwrecked
by the pirates. Along comes the V
K. cruiser "Oklahoma," In charge of
Commander lloomday. His daugh
ter, Haisy, Is with him, with six l
S. marines, who flirt with six belles
of Hocus Pocus.
After several Interesting adven
tures, Hlake proves his right to the
patent, and Luce, driven to the wall,
su rrenders t he chart ami patent
rights, and consents to Madeline's

vicinity ot Kdenbower, where he as
sisted t he fruitgrowers there in
spraying their trees.
In an interview this morning Mr.
St rang said it was his opinion that
the pear crop would lie somewhat
larger in Noughts County this year
l ban in previous seasons. "I have
inspected tiuite a number of pear or
chards during t he past week," said
Mr. Strung, "and ft is my prediction
that the yield of this product will be
greater than for several years. The
prices to be oTfered for the crop wilt
probably depend to some extent oil
the foreign demand, w hich may be

will not be us large as last year, but
what is lacking in yield will prob
ably be made up in the prices to be
paid to the growers. The prune trees
are looking line, but il will be some

Charging a series of cruel and in
human acts which are alleged to
have occurred during the past four
years, Mrs. .lu.-de A. Clark this
morning filed a suit in the Circuit
Court here in which she seeks to ob
tain a divorce from her husband,
Will jam Clark. The defendant was
formerly engaged in the real estate
business in Jioseburg and is tjuile
well known in this vicinity.
The complaint alleges that .Mr. and
Mrs. Clark were married in Koseburg
on November 2H, 1!M1, and have
since made their home in this vicin
ity. During the year H12, the plain
tiff alleges, tier husband frequently
ibused her by calling her vile and
vicious names. A few days before
the bird of their last child. Mrs.
Clark says, her husband resumed his
1111 bearable treat men t and referred
to her in terms unbecoming a man
of mature years. On the night their
child was born. .Mrs. ("lark says, her
husband, in the presence of other
persons who chanced to be at their
home, remarked: "Take that child
home with you, I am not Its father."

Clark was intoxicated at the time.

each climax.

pans more like professionals than

A happy young couple who are well
known here are Jay Carter, a popu
lar clerk at the Hotel Grand, and
his wife, who was formerly Mist-
Merle Ireland, of Olalia. They were
married at the home of Rev. W. II
Kuton, pastor of the Baptist church
at n o'clock last evening. With
only a fexv friends present, the cere
mony was simple, and the couple
aiterward partook of a wedding din
ner served by their friends in this
city. They will be located at the
Grand for the next week or two and
will later go to Riddle to yisit with
the bride's relatives.
.Mrs. Carter is a daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. A.. S. Ireland, who have
lived in the Olalla vicinity for some
time, while Mr. Carter has been em
ployed at the local hotel for a num
ber of years. They both have many
friends lure who wish for them a
happy and prosperous future.

A very substantial sum was se
cured for the treasury of the Girls'
National Honor Guard in this city at
the dance given under their auspices
at the armory last evening. The
dance was one of the most widely
attended events ever held here and
was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone
present. After all incidental expenses
were allowed for, proceeds of about
sixty dollars remained as clear
profit. A great number of tickets
had been sold by the girls for the
event, and a fee of five cents for
every dance was charged. Additional
profits were made by checking hats
and cloaks in the cloak room. The
occasion was very well managed and
the first benefit to be given by the
Girls' Honor Guard was a brilliant
success. The money earned will be
left in the treasury here, to be ex
pe n d ed as n ecessa ry .
