She had bought a box of "talcum powder" from a street peddler who claimed to be crippled. An examination of the stuff showed that it was chiefly baking powder with a little perfume mixed. The woman who telephoned police head quarters refused lo give her name, hut ii is known that she is not the only housewife in town who fell for the powders. Visited in Salem Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Abraham went to Salem Saturday evening, where they visited with their daugh ter. Miss Mernice Abraham, who is a student in th? law department of Willamette I'niverMity. Mr. Abra ham returned to this city today, but Mrs. Abraham will prolong her visit for a short time. Virginia, to tho effect that his wife is very ill there and the attending physicians have little, if any hope for her recovery. Mrs. Lloyd re sided in Koseburg for several years and left here last summer for the Hast to visit with relatives. She has since been in West Virginia, (losed School at Peel- Mrs. Margaret SI. Onge left this tnorninp for her home at Hound Prairie after closing a successful term of school at Peel last Friday. RIDDLE SCHOOLS SHOW THEIR PATRIOTISM AT MEETING HELD FRIDAY Kiddle's public school showed her patriotism Friday afternoon and with a host of loyal supporters, sang the "Star Spangled Uanner" and saluted the flag on the school grounds. The school and community were so high ly incensed over the disloyally shown by Ihe chairman of the school board. .Dr. W. F. Kaiser, and one other director. W. T. Lunglois, at a recent school meeting, when they overruled a motion made by I. P. Gardner, the third director, that ihe teachers be instrucied to have the children salute the flag every morn ing, for fear it might cause trouble in school, that their patriotism has known no hounds.
