former is a member of the Sanitarj

Two well known local boys were
given a Hiirpri.sp last night when they
stepped from behind a Treight car
in the local Southern Pacific yards to
look into the muzzle of a menacing
six-shooter in the hands of Night
Officer (Irani Wilcox.
After riding about 100 miles since
evening in order to he home for the:
week-end w ith their parents and ' 4
friends, the boys were considerably ' "h
frightened, although their ride itself
was not without, its perils and dan
gers, which often accompany a night
trip on a freight train. The officer
was looking I or worse characters,
several of whom were thought: to he
onroute here last evening, and Im
mediately commanded the young
men lu show their credentials.
t Lining up beside the tracks in an
I attitude t hat at once convinced t he
j officer that he had captured a dan-
igerous pair, the boys sheepishly ex
j plained their identity. At their first
j words, however, the officer saw his
mistake and promised not to mention
the incident, while the boys slunk
away to their homes. On their next
return home the officer advised them
to pay their way.

A telegram was received by
William Van Huren this morn
ing to the effect that Kdward
Mushey, a former resident of
Hoseburg, died in Nevada on
-March li l. following an illness
of several weeks. He is sur
vived by a sister who Is thot
to be living in Portland. Mr.
Mushey resided in Koseburg
for a number of years and at
the time his father owned con
siderable property in North
Uoseburg. The deceased left
h ere a bo u t 1 H yea rs a go and
has since made his home in the
Middle West. lie has many
friends in this vicinity who
were surprised to learn of his
death.

the principal thoroughfares. While
Ihe roads specified are beitiR im
proved with the bonding funds, the
other roads can be taken care of
from the regular road funds of the
county and I t orn tile overdue rail
road grant land taxes. Altogether
these three funds will aggregate over
l.dflti.niio In the next two years.
This big fund is being provided un
der this plan without any increase
whatever in the present rale of taxa
tion, and the proposed bond issue
and Ihe Interest thereon will all be
paid off in 1 5 years.
The people present at the meeting

were unanimous in their approval of
this proposed bonding plan. belieing
that it opens the way for building
permanent modern roads. This, too.
without any increase of taxation
