Sheriff tjuine this afternoon wired to .Mod ford that the :nan and woman held there fnj- the local courthouse robbery be released. The evidence whs not deeined su IT icient to n ar rant their detention. A second charge is beini; considered by other officers. I I I S l The sear, h for a man and woman wanted by the local sheriff's office for their supposed connection with the buiKlary of the fourthoiii-e of fices here Sunday night, resulted in the detention at Medi'nrd this morn ing of It. Pat Maud, and a woman, elaiiuing to he his wife, who reais tered at t he (.rami hotel Sat unlay evening. What action would ho taken in relation to their activities here was to have been" determined hy District Attorney Cienrge Neuner late this afternoon. The burglars took in cash from the tax de partment, a revolver from the coun ty treasurer's office, and $U in stamps from t he office of School Supt. O. ('. Hrown. The. man and woman are believed to he the same persons who a few hours previous to the robbery were seen by several local residents hang ing around the court house. As soon as the robbery was discovered Mon day morning, it was learned that the couple had left on train No. 1:1, at ::::: o'clock lor Krants Pass. The officers there could not lie notified before their arrival, however, and it was not until they stepped from the 1i;iin tliis morning at Me.tt'ord thai they were recognized. There is said lo he another charge against the couple and if not held for the burg lary, they will doubtless he detained nn 'a chaYge at least as serious. According to Hie information ac companying the word by which the local officers were informed of the arrest , little evidence is said to be discovered by which the coupb car be connected with the robbery. Their cash consisted of 1" cents, ami they bad nothing else which indicated that they could have been in the cou rt house. Their ex da nation is that they visited here as they did at ('.rants Pass', merely stopping over a day on I heir way south. The officers were of the opinion today that they would have to let the couple go un less they heard from the second charge. . j That their first suspicions were correct, however, is the belief of J several people who noticed the coil-; pie here during their stay.
