The Iteview today received the fol lowing letter from Hon. G. W. Kid dle, of Kiddle, in which he discusses the I6.UUU.UUU road hond issue to be submitted to a vote of the people of Oregon at a special election to be held on June 4: Kditor Iteview The question of roads and boud is sues seems to be the leading ques tion of the day, and it is to be re gretted that some of our taxpayers take a pessimistic view of the mat ter and can only see"' the hole iu the doughnut. 1 have examined the bill providing for the $6,000,000 bond issue and it appears to me that Douglas County is amply provided for. It means that the state takes over the Pacific Highway through the county, also about 20 miles of the road from Koseburg to Myrtle Point. It means that these roads will be constructed according to specifications agreed upon by a representative of the Fed eral Government, which means a standard road as to grade and road bed. The hill also provides that if any part of this road is prepared for paving by the county, the highway commission MUST pave the road so prepared. This provision places bouglas County on an equal footing with other counties where the paved roads pass through. It should also be remembered that the bond issue bill provides for an increased auto mobile license tax sufficient to pay the interest on the bonds and pro vides for their redemption, and tin automobile owner will save money in overhead expenses by having better roads. When the state const ruotF the Pacific Highway and the Myrtle Point road and assumes their main tenance, Douglas County is in a bet ter position to improve oty couniy roads. There should he a road opened down Klk Creek to Klkton, follow ing the line of the abandoned rail road grade, thus giving a water level road to the richest agricultural section of Douglas County. There should also be a road from Seofts burg to Keedsport or Gardiner. At present that important part of our county Is almost like foreign country to Ihe balance of Douglas Couniy. Under Ihe provisions ot the bond hill aid could be ext"nded to that pro ject. Douglas County should vote for this bond bill. We have everything to gain and cannot lose. C.KO. W. RIDDLE.
