ticles from their clothes while play
ing in the armory here last Saturday
has not developed into anything
more than a rumor, says the Ashland
Tiding. A story was sent out from
Medford to the effect that thieves
had entered the dressing room here
and stolen money, knives, stickpins
and other articles from the clothe
of the RoseburgerH. Althoush the
Medford Sun stated that the then
had been reported to the Ashland

On May 21 a new law will go into
effect raising the fee charged for
Hunting and fishing licenses. At that
time the price of the licenses will
be advanced fifty per cent. The
present rates for either lishing or
Hunting licenses are f 1 a year, while
tno combination license costs $2
After May 21 the rate will be $1.50
for the sing'.e permit or $3 for the
combination. Until the new law goes
into effect, the 1917 licenses may be
procured at the old rate.

II. D. Putnam, of North Bend, has
started suit in the Circuit Court
against Charles Thorn, who formerly
conducted the brewery, says the
North Bend Harbor. The suit is to
recover money claimed to be due for
cord wood which Putnam furnished
Thorn for his factory. For the past
year Thom has been engaged in
making soft drinks. The amount
sued for is $2 til.

Because of the scarcity of hides
at leat one Eastern manufacturing
firm is now turning out a shoe witn
wooden soles. A sample of the shoe
was brought here recently by i
traveling salesman, and it is un
derstood he took several orders
during his sitay in this city. The
scole Is nearly a half inch thick
but of light material nnd the shoe
weighs little more than those made
of leather. In the event prices con
tinue to increase it is believed the
new shoe will come into general
use.
