According to a Kansas philoso pher, the reason why boys leave the farm Is that Willie's calf grows up to be pa's cow. Eggs are now getting down to a price where a fellow can afford to buy one or two to send out as Christ mas presents. Mrs. J. G. Safley, of Tracer, Towa, is expected here this week to spend the holidays.at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Safley. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Walker, or 1 Mountain Home, Idaho, accompanied by their five children, arrived here Sunday evening and will make their permanent home In Sutherlin. It would seem that the price now being paid for beets would war rant many of our local people en gaging In this Industry. In the cargo of the steamer Hrlnr dent, sunk recently off the coast of England by a German submarine, was a consignment of Newtown ap ples from the Frink estate south of Medford. There will be no loss to the local growers,, however, as the ship and cargo were well covered by insurance. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Baldwin, for mer residents of Suthcrlin, who left here about six months ago for Warner, Canada, arrived here last Friday for a visit with Mrs. Bald win's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Cole. Enroute from Canada they visited Mr. Baldwin's parents In Missouri. Charles Larimer, who recently went from Sutherlin to St. Iquitus. Mont., has been ill with pneumonia since his arrival there, but Is now practically recovered. He is employed In a large store there. St. Iquitus Is on an Indian reservation. Mrs. C. A. Weston and Miss La Vllle Archambcau, of Dunsmulr, Calif., arrived here Monday to spend the holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Arcnambcau. D. M. Kyle, of Florence, arrived here the first of the week to visit a few days at the home of Rev, and Mrs. E. E. McVicker on Fourth ave nue. With a few days of dry weather to permit the completion of work on the new Sutherlin school play shed, the local schools will be able to boast of better playing facilities Irian any other school in the county and at the &ame time complete the final re quirement for a standard school sys tem.
