That Otto Vanderniullen ,of La Grande, who was taken from Southern Pacific train here a few days ago, suffering from a nervous breakdown, lost a purse containing about $40 somewhere between that city and Roseburg, was the state ment made by bis nepnew wno ar rived in Roseburg yesterday. The unfortunate man left for Eastern Oregon on train No. 14 Sun day, where he will be given medical treatment. He was acompanieu there by his brother and nephew. The officers claim that Mr. Vander mullen owns considerable property ill La Grande, as well as having several hundred dollars in one of the banks of that city. Marshal Williams took the boy Into custody after he had received numerous complaints from residents of the city regarding the disappearance of their milk bottles. Otto Van Uemuller, of I.a Grande, who had been here several days pending the arrival of relatives to accompany him home after a slight attack of mental weakness which af flicted him while enroutc through here on a train last Wednesday even ing, left for home yesterday after noon. He was accompanied by his nephew and a brother, both of I.a Grande. Mr. Van Demuller is X:! years old and is quite active and Is reputed to have considerable means. MalhlHon on charges of obtaining money and property under falses pretenses, but the state's attorney was given fur ther time to make additional show ing as to why the case should be con tinued until the February term of court, at the time the Mathlson rases are to be tried.
