Wiley, of Camas Valley, one of the earliest settlers in that district, died at 1 1 o'clock Thursday morning, after an illness of several weeks as the result of a cancer. He was K8 years old. Mr. Wiley had been a resident of Camas Valley as long as 611 years and is well known among the people of the community, lie had been an active farmer and only recently had ho been unable to look after his work. Harvey returned Tuesday night from Orants Pass, says the tilendale News. He states that there is a hard campaign on to encourage ranchers to plant sugar beets nexi season. It is understood that the farmers in the Shasta Valley, in Noithern California, have signed up lo plant 2(1(10 or 3000 acres of beets, and many of those who grew beets this year will try it again next year. A patient IS years old. who had been having trouble with her nose due to something that obstructed the passage and interfered with breath ing, went to the Northwest Eye and Kar hospital yesterday for the pur pose of having the nose operated on. This is not necessary, however, until a sufficient number of cases develop to ause alarm. In many instances infantile paraly sis acts much the same as rheuma tism, according to the health officer, anil for that reason too much care cannot he exercised by parents. A slight fever, acompanied by aching limbs or back, is sufficient to war rant the calling of a physician. A fatiEue illness, free from actual par- alvsis, is often the result of this malady.
