The tax collecting department of the county government last Saturday turned over approximately $2;,0G0 to the treasurer. By the last of the month practically all of the money received from the last naif of the taxes will be in the hands of the treasurer. Ted .iewett returned here Sunday from Pendleton, where he partici pated In a debate held in connection with the recent convention of the Women's Christian Temperance Un ion, of Oregon. Mr. Jewett says a big crowd was in attendance at the' convention and many matters oi importance were discussed. Manley Strawn, of Yoncalla, came over Saturday evening to look after business matters. Mr. Strawn is postmaster at Yoncalla and is well known in this vicinity. Upon his ar rival here, Mr. Strawn reported that he has sold approximately 70,000 pounds of prunes to the W. F. Drager Fruit Company, which con ducts plants In Salem, Roseburg and Myrtle Creek. The prunes were grown on Mr. Slrawn's ranch a few miles from Yoncalla.
