Wednesday complimenting Marvel,

four o'clock luncheon. The little

luncheon was served. The little

The '!Ci Mental Culture Club con
vened Tuesday afternoon tor the
first meeting of the year. A good
attendance of members was present
to enjoy the program. The session
wan held in the Commercial Club
parlors and opened with music and
singing. Mrs. Drumtield presided at
the piano and the members united In

Mrs. Stella Woodruff contributed
a very interesting number when she
read a paper on the "History of tho

ClubB." This traced the growth of
the Federation down to the present
time and told of the women's move
ment in the different parts of the
world. Several questions that were
gaining In importance with the Fed
eration were discussed, among them
being the new civic spirit and topics
that would probably be brought
fm-th in club circles during the com
ing year.
Miss Margaret Page entertained
with an article on "The World's
Progress of Wome'n which was writ
ten by Mrs. Carrie Chapman Catt, a
prominent club woman, in New York
City. This dealt with the history
and progress of the woman move
ment anil cited instances ot famous
women in all parts of the world who
had helped in establishing and aid
ing it. The paper was fraught with
interest throughout and discussed
the topic from economic, industrial
anil social standpoints.
The meeting of the Mental Culture
Club next week promises to be of
much Interest, as Mrs. A. C. Mars
ters will give the report of the bi
ennial convention of Women's Clubs
in New York to which she was a
delegate. Delegates to the annual
convention of the State Federation
will also he chosen.

blossoms. Cards and sewing were
the diversions of the afternoon and
several happy hours were spent in
this entertaining manner. The hosN

Miss Phyllis Tisdale. The color note
of pink and white entered into the
menu and the place cards were cun

engineer, spent the day at Comstock,
where he conferred with the state
engineer with reference to making a
ehanKe in the proposed Pacific Hisn
way lo be constructed through Pass
Creek canyon. Tho survey for the
proposed new route was made by the
stale officials somo time ago, but it
was later found that practically all
ot the appropriation would be needed
to purchase the right of way. To
eliminate this expenditure. Engineer
(Icrmond has proposed another
route which he considers superior to
tlie one surveyed by the state. In
the event the state engineer is satis
fied with the survey made by -Mr.
Cermond, It is not Improbable that

An uncommon accident happened
about 5:30 o'clock last evening,
when a wagon driven by a tourist
and filled with bedding, turned over
on Koso street, Just south of Cass.
A large crowd booR gathered, and
with the ready assistance of a dozen
or more citizens the wagon was,
again righted. The driver had four
horses tied to the rear of the ve
hicle, and as the turn at the corner
was made the animals pulled back,
making the overturning unavoidable.

Aug. 20. The train will carry not
