the time during the construction.

once the w ot k is begun it will he

The sand and gravel has been or

Ah I promised an account of my
trip 1 will drop you a few lines to let
you know that we are enjoviug our
journey. We have already tra eled

a number of automobile accidents in
Walla Walla, though we saw none

and subsequently destroyed Ity fire.
Many people in Douglas County have
the impression that the Columbia
Highway is paved for tin miles, or
w it h in ihree miles of Hood Riv er.

for a distance of D miles, and it is
I fine. The scenery along the road Is
. beautiful. Itefore rea hing The
Dalles we traveled over a number
of hills, one of w hich w as sc en
miles in length. These hills are
much like those in Douglas County.

was in good condition, however, and

At the regular meeting of the
Roseburg school boaid, held at the
ofhees of Roscoe Green last evening,
it was decided to pay John Huuler,
who is in charge of erecting the new
high school building here, the sum
of $4'Hio, This sum represents the
work already finished by Mr. Hun
ter, together with quantities of ma
terial purchased by hi in during tin
past month.

the evening was that of electing a
school clerk for the ensuing year.
