A fire in a waste basket, which
I waa more or less of a tempest in 1
teapot, was discovered tn the niuin
lobby of the Grand Hotel this morn
' trig and was seen barely in time to
prevent serious damage or a posdhU
dost ruct ion to the entire establish
ment.

the basket. The careless person.
though ignorant of what might be
the result, then left the hotel. Ouy

meet the train. No one was then in
the hotel for several minutes and
when the clerk returned the waste
b.isket was nearly consumed witli
flames. A bucket of water allayed
further damage, but in a few min
uses more t lie blaze would have
eaten Into the floor and probably
have ignited the surrounding furni
ture. A large hole was burned in
the linoleum.
The fire caused considerable ayd
t:.tion about the hotel for a short
time, but after ft was seen there was
no damage the matter was quieted.
