bany newspaper correspondents as

convention. Nevertheless Hughe
wns renominated and re-elected.
The Hughes fight against the

the most spectacular of all his moves
as Governor. Behind it lay a senti
mental Interest. While practicing
law Hughea was thrown in contact
with a stenographer whose father
had been Imprisoned for embezzle
ment of money with which he "play
