ELLIS NEAL KILLEO AT The Deceased Was Formerly a Resident of Roseburg Mr. Neal First Wrapped Himself In a Blanket and Then Turned on Ihe Gas Wife Is Grief Stricken Over Art Apparently despondent bemuse of minor domestic difficulties. Kills Neal, for several veats a resident of Pose burK and owner of one of the first automobiles brouuht to this . vicinity late last Friday niyht committed sui ide at Ashland by inhaling pas. His body was found last evenini; and ilie funeral will probably be held tomor row or Thursday. According to word received over the telephone this afternoon, Mr. Neal was last seen on the streets of A.-h land at about 9 o'clock Friday even InK. He apepared very nervous at the time, and one of bis friends com mented on his condition. When he tailed to show up at bis place of business Saturday morning his asso ciates hecii me alarmed, but not h in a wan done in the way of ascertaining; his whereabouts until last niuht. From the investiga tion that followed it appeared evident that the act was premeditated. Fpon entering the bedroom of his home the voune man wrapped himself in a blanket, placed 2"i cents in the meter and turned on the tras. He then closed .he doors and windows and lay down fin the bed. Physicians who examined the body believe his deal h occurred some time late Friday niidit. probably soon after he rei unied bun' after visiting the business district. He had not removed his clothes, and th en was no evidence of a striu-de. As far as has been ascertained, lie led no note or other evidence indicating why he committed the rash act. This morning committees appointed by the war veterans and their ladie-t visited the several local cemeteries, where the Knives of Ihe departed comrades were strewn with roses and other flowers typical of this locality. In adtlition to these comiuiiiees hund reds of private citizens visited the cemeteries and decorated the graves of their loved ones. Never before in the history of KosebutK was ihe solemn occasion observed more en erally in this vicinity than today. At 2 o'clock this afternoon the mem bers oT the .. A. P.. Helief Corps. Spanish-American War Veterans, !' Scouts and Coast Artillery assembled at the new armory and later marched to the Soldiers' Home cemetery. There the graves of the lalbn heroes were decorated with thousands of choice blooms. The parade was headed by the Kosehuri; Juvenile Hand, and was in charue of the Spanish-American War Veterans, with M. C. Clark act in, as marshal. The flan and drill corps added color to the procession as it slowly wended its way west on Oak street and finally halted at He Soldi rs' Home. The beautiful decor ations were in charge of the Women's Relief Corps, assisted by tin- fla drill ladles. The formal ext n ises of the after noon were held ill tile Soldiers' Home Kiove and were in cbari:e of II. C. Markee. commandant id the insi iiu t ion. The pnu'r:'.m opened with se lect ions by Ihe Koseburt; Juvenile Hand, followed by the readinu if orders by the Adjutant of the Post. Then followed a pravcr by the chap lain. Other numbers on the program included a solo, by Cltftord .lope; Lin coin's (let t ysburt: speech, by a mem ber of the Home; address. "Missions of the Nation," by Kev. K. K. Jope; solo, by Mrs. Markee; flau drill by PI yount: ladies, and the berwdiction. The address delivered by ltev. Jope was very intere-tini: and attracted the closest attention ot his audience. The flat: drill was also one of the pleasing feat tins of the program. A bi;.r crowd was present at the Home this afternoon, and it was prac tically agreed that lodav's memorial exercises were probably the most im pressive and int etest in.; ever held hero.
