George Grlder. of Portland, arrived here last evening to pass a few days with friends. Mrs. N. V. Cochran returned this morning from a visit with her daugh ter at Sutherlin. Hunsaker expects to open his new confectionery store in the Sheridan building, on Jackson street, early next week. J. K. Large, a prominent rancher living near Sutherlin, expects to build a large barn to replace the one which recently burned. I. It. Kiddle, justice of the peace, spent the afternoon in the rural dis tricts conferring with the voters re garding his candidacy for district at torney. Mayor Joseph Bridges, of Oakland, came over this morning and spent the day conferring with the voters regarding his candidacy for county commissioner. Mrs. George Skiff went to Win ston this morning to attend a dinner party given by the Merry Go Hound Club of that vicinity at the home of Mrs. Pert Green. W. G. Maker, who had been visit ing foi the past few weeks at Sunny side, Wash., returned here this mom ing. He was called there on account of the illness of some of his rela tives. Kred Heard came over from Yon calla this morning to spend a couple or days, lie only recently returned to Douglas County after some time spent at Portland and other northern points. Letters received here recently in dicate that Frank Long, now a resi dent or California, Is improving. Mr. Long formerly lived ill Kuseburg and went to California in hope of bene fitting his health.
