of cascara bark were cut on the Sius

ing the latter half of last year. A
steady demand for this bark for
medicinal purposes, both In the Tin
ted States and in Kurope, exists, iie

The cascara bark industry began,
it is asserted, in California about

led in the production of the burk. ex

in a single year. Now Western Ore
gon, chiefly between the Sileiz and
I'tupnua Rivers, and to a lesser de
gree Western Washington, are the
principal sources of supply. The for

methods practiced in obtaining the
bark on privately owned land, has
resulted in gradually reducing the

the National Forests as an important
supplementary source of supply.
