the first Presbyterian Church were
present last evening when the mem
bers assembled to bid farewell to Dr.
and Mrs. Paul .1. Lux. the former of
whom has been pastor of the local
church for the past three and a half
ytars. The leave-taking was marked
by hundreds ol expressions of regret

Lux took t his afternoon's train for

mary election system wiped off the
statute books, thereby restoring the
old-time political boss to full sway,

Those were the days when the
boss selected all the candidates Tor
public office and saw to it that they
were "regularly" nominated by the
"hand picked" delegates who bad
seats In the convention. The voters
really bad no choice whatever in
choosing the nominees, hence those
nominees, after being elected to the,
several offices, knew that they were
under no obligations to the voters,
and consequently served only the
boss who had put them in their re-
spectlve places.

Marsters, known as a one-time po
litical boss of Douglas County, and
a cousin of the present county judge.
It is also well remembered that it
was that same . f. Marsters who
openly rebuked the taxpayers of
Douglas County when thev appeared
in the count y con rt room la-t De-
were cember and respectfully recom
were mended that the tax budget be ma
terially lowered for the year 1!1I.
Nor is it forgotten bv those laxpav
ers that their just and equitable re
quest was ignored and the position
of Couin Alva sustained bv the
court. Hence the taxpavets of Doug

Mrs. C. D. Maynard was much sur
prised Tuesday evening when her
door bell rang, just as she had
turned out her lights to retire. On
going to the door she was confronted
by a jolly crowd of friends, who tiad
gathered to spend the evening with
her. They were made most welcome

and other games. A dainty lunch
was served at 12 o'clock, and as the
clock struck the small hour they h'1

this evening. It is the opinion ol the
members of the hoard. howeer. that
the only cause of tho wreck was tho
defective flange on one of t lie wheels
and that this steered the entire 11
cars off (he track to be smashed in
the following ru:-h down the grade.
The wreckage on the track was
cleared aw ay so as to penn it t he
passage of trains, according to the
officials, at about II o'clock last
night. Several of the trains today,
however, were delaved for nearly an
hour, although an effort w;i made
to resume the regular schedule. The
wrecking train was taken to the
sc. nc again this morning in order lo
pick up parts of the wreckage that
inav be ave.. but the loss is expect
rd to reach several thousand dollars.
