cause of the accident and which sat
here yesterday, says the Kugene
liegister.
The board consisted of V. L.
Hurckhalter, superintendent of the

sistant superintendent; ieo. Wildj,
mastermei'lianic. U. A. Halib and J.
I. Light. Kugene merchants. The
Southern Pacific officials came here
in the private car of Superintendent
Hurckhalter. which was in the locai
yards yesterday. It w as taken out
on train No. 10 last night to Port
land. The first board of inquiry to ex
amine into the cause of the derail
ment of the engine failed to fix the
blame. The report stated that the
throw ing of the sw itch seemed to be
the cause of the accident, but that
the direct testimony of the engineer
and brakeman contradicted this, and
