no evidence at hand to show that the
trunk had been ransacked, or that
anything bad been removed from the
client. In this trunk the dead man
kept a part of his clothing, trinkets,
nr.d other ai titles of Chinese manu
facture. A ftoHf-burff banker, in whose de
pository Faut kept his funds, stated
this morning that the aged China
man was a hard worker, and through
his Industrious disposition had
saved considerable money. Although
the eat amount of money left by
the di , eased is not known, the offi
eers intimate that it will exceed $1.
; eon. He deposited his funds regu
larly, according to local bank offi
cials, and from all apearanees was
not lavish in his expenditures. It Is
the opinion of the bank officers that
, Faut had little money In his laundry
at the (me he was murdered.

the morgue, believes that he was
first siunned bv a severe blow on the

I stabbed the unfortunate man in the
abdomen. The undertaker does not
believe Fatit'B throat was cut until
after the other injuries had been in
flicted upon his body. He bases his
opinion on the condition of the re
I mains, coupled with his experience in
handling persons who have been vic
tims of similar attacks. In addition
to f-ustaining numerous cuts about
the ;e;t'l and face, a severed throat
nnd wound in the abdomen, Mr. Hit
ter Siivs his body bore many bruises.
Whether there was any struggle will
probably never be known.
It is the opinion of District Attor
ney Neuner that the two strange
Chinamen who spent Monday in
l!os' bjrg were responsible for the
murder. He scouts the contention
of some persons that Faut was the
victim of the Tongs. The fact that
the two Chinamen were well supplied
, with dimes ami nickels on the morn
' Ing following the murder has led the
district atnnney to believe that this
money was taken froui Faut. H is
, c ha raid' ri-tic of Chinamen engaged
i in the laundry business to keep many
dimes and nickels In order to give
change to their customers. The ills
i trlct attorney also believes that the
murder is characteristic of the
. Chinese, who usually mutilate their
victims. There is nothing to Indicate
that the murder w as committed by
' a nhite person, according to the
of fibers.
Following discovery of the body an
officer was placed In charge of the
uuarters formerly occupied by Faut.
This action was taken In order that
nothing would he molested.
The officers do not attach any sig
nificance to the revolver found tin-
! der Fant's pillow, for the reason that
! many Chinese as well as Americans,
