ZEPPELIN RAIDS PROVE FATAL.
Paris, Jan. 31. Though Zeppelins Saturday killed 25
and injured 32 persons, they failed to do any damage in the

Ten incendiary bombs were dropped. Six of these fell in
en open field in the suburbs. Others exploded harmlessly.
The newspapers voiced the anger of the-populace, and de

" the raids were merely reconnoitering expeditions.
EFFECTIVE BLOCKADE HELD IMPOSSIBLE.

Washington, Jan. 31. Ambassador Sharp reported
that last nights Zeppelin raid covered a small but populous
portion of Paris. He reported that ten were killed and
' twenty others injured. No bombs fell near the American
Embassy.
GERMAN OFFENSIVE DIMINISHING.
Paris, Jan. 31. It i officially stated that the German
. onslaughts in the Artois region are diminishing, and that
kthe Teutons were driven from the conquered and wrecked
trenches.
SUBMARINE CAN'T BE LOCATED.
Washington. Jan. 31. Every ship in the Charleston
and Nortolk navy yards have searcned the sea between
Cape Hatteras and C;r'::t:n for the submarine K-5. OTi
cers thought the vessel was lost in a fog or had run
v Pground. The submarine carried two officers and 26 men.
It had a wireless radius of 75 miles. Three other submarines
which accompanied the K-5 entered Charleston this morn
ing. They had been held outside the harbor in a fog.
SUBMARINE IS PROBABLY LOST.
Washington. Jan. 31. The Navy Department fearj
the submarine K-5 has shared the fate of the F-4. and was
sunk with her entire crew. A message said she exchanged
positions by wireless Sunday morning with other sub
marines, and was then 5 miles from Charleston. That wa5
. the last heard from her. Officials believe some of the crew
t,f 28 were with other vessels of the flotilla.
