The Belgian constitution of 1831

for four years. Universal male suffrage,
with plural voting up to three voles

tions, was Introduced by the electoral
law of 1804. proportional representa
tion being secured by an act of 1000.

two miles.

The "polders" near the coast, which
are protected by dikes against floods,
cover an area of 103 square miles. The

(Escuut) and the Maas (Meuse). Brus
