woodsman, covered tho wound with
cold ashes from the fire and bandaged
the strange balm up very tightly. Mr.
Watson suffered but little from the
wound after that.
After the stay at the soda springs
and the visits to the Hock House the
party started back toward tho Pmp-
(ita river. This stream was crossed
at another suspension bridge and the
party climbed to the top of Oak flats,
anolher plateau about S00 feet in
height. Two days and two nights
ere spent here.
The parly then proceeded to Twin
Lakes, a couple of small mountain
lakes near the top of the ridge be
tween the north fork of the I'mpqua
and Little Utver. They went on over
the ridge and. following down Little
Itlver. reached a small settlement
ailed Peel. Here they took an auto
mobile hack to Itoseburg.
Mr. Watson left yesterday with the
party for another trip into the Siski
you mountains. This trip will last
about a month. Mr. Kromeling, whom
.Mr. Watson styles as the remarkably
good guide, will have charge of the
party. Plans have been made for
hunting and fishing in some of the
streams and woods far back in the
mountains.
