Gibson, of Wood burn, is spending a few days In Rose burg, visiting with friends. : Mrs. Claude Riddle, of Riddle, left here this afternoon with her baby for Yoncalla, to spend a few days. Miss Esther Pearson returned home this afternoon to Sutherliu, af ter a few days spent visiting with Miss Mildred Parks. Mr. Ashley, a prominent Portland -,, banker, spent the day in Roseburg, visiting with friends. He came by automobile and was accompanied by Mrs. Ashley. Bert Mellen, of Portland, arrived here last night, and left today for Marshfield and other coast cities where he intends to pass a few days on business. According to persons who returned from the scene of the forest fire, east of town, this afternoon, a quantity of wood belonging to Barker & Wharton was destroyed. J. W. Perkins, who has been spend ing the past few days at Coos Bay points In the interests of the pro posed railroad from Roseburg Co Marshfield, is expected to return here this evening. On account of the absence of the local baseball team there will be no game tomorrow. As a result, most of the fans will spend tne day in me country districts, fishing and enjoy ing olher similar pleasantries. G. V. Kristy, wife and daughter, arrived hero this afternoon from Myrtle Point by automobile. They made the run In about five hours, which they consldor very good on account of the extreme warm weathe.'. . Mrs. Flora Sawyer today filed suit In the Circuit Court for divorce from her husband, Elmer Sawyer. They were' married In Illinois in Juue, 1901. The plaintiff alleges In her complaint that her husband at vari ous times treated her in a cruel and inhuman manner, in one Instance beating her with his open hand and using abusive language.
