made the slogan of the Riddle Rod &
Gun Club, and now that the lawful
hunting season Is again approaching
It might be well to impress upon
hunterB the importance of preserving
the does In order to keep up the
supply of deer which afford unlimited
sport and food for the residents ana
visitors to this part of Oregon eviry
year. The state law makes it a mis
demeanor to kill a doe at any time
of the year, and if the men who hunt
would dig into the reason why, un
doubtedly tlio practice of killing
them would greatly decrease, and
there would be generally a hotter
feeling of respect for all the laws
governing the killing of game. Not
withstanding the fact that the killing
ef u female dear or fawn Is being
generally discountenanced as beneath
the dignity of a true sportsman, there
are those who argue that tho does

as bucks, and numerous faulty reuB

who want to kill them simply be
cause they are easy to find and "some
of them are good to eat.

of how many deer would result from
allowing her to live ton years, which
Is about the average life of a deer.
In order not to overdo the thing, ve
have credited her with three fawns

and giving her for tho first year a
buck fawn. Considering that all of

'Twenty bucks with horns, lawful

Total, 63 deer.
